Antioch’s Theology of Praise and Worship

From the rising of the Sun until the going down of the same, the members of Antioch Christian Tabernacle enter into the sanctuary with praise and thanksgiving on their hearts with great anticipation of entering into the presence of God. At Antioch praise and worship are essential elements to right relationship with the Father. The members of the body have given up their lives and entered into the Life of God through Jesus Christ. Each member declares that now the life of the Father flows out of him. His essence; his identity becomes the focus of their celebration not just in the gatherings but in their lifestyles. The Word of God becomes the instruction manual for their methodology of praise and worship. From the Hebrew imperative “Hallelujah,” (You, praise the Lord!) uttered by King David to the visionary experience of John in the throne room, we sing; we shout; we dance in a purposeful praise-deliberate and relevant to the nature of  God.

Discipleship

Tuesday Night---
Every Tuesday night, the believers in the body of Antioch are assembled under the theme of discipleship.  The Pastor contends that structured Bible study is the essential element to sound discipline for the believer to engage in a serious approach to faith development.  The pastors engage the class in an informed, focused study of the scriptures for life application. Pastor Stephens makes use of his post graduate training at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary as instrument by which God brings the bible narrative to life.  Each member’s contemporary perspective is challenged to align with the biblical experience thus the word becomes flesh week after week.

Bible Study

Wednesday Night—
Wednesday Night is Antioch’s regular bible study.   Again, the members of the body of the church are called to a disciplined approach to bible study. Pastor Stephens sets forth the notion that bible study is most effective if it is done holistically. So he engages the body in the study of individual contributions to the cannon as opposed to dissecting the text running the risk of frustrating the biblical context and/or the author’s intentionality.  With a working understanding of the original language of the biblical text, Hebrew and Greek, Pastor Stephens sets out to embrace the ancient text with a clear contemporary application for Christian living.

Sunday School

Thursday Night—
Oddly enough, Pastor Stephens and the Antioch congregation make use of Thursday nights for what is typically understood as “Sunday School.” This night closes out what they refer to as “The Triple Threat.” This third and final focus on the biblical text is presented via the Bible Expositor and Illuminator from the Christian Life Series, a publication of Union Gospel Press Division.  Minister of Christian Education, Mamie Copelin, under the guidance of the Pastor facilitates this provocative study of the International  Bible lessons for Christian teaching.
